From install to a live setup, one step at a time.

Install qkt, write a strategy, backtest it with real costs, read the report, then set up a production folder. Every command is here to copy.

On a phone, rotate it or tap full screen: the code is easier to read.

Downloads the latest release and installs it under ~/.local/share/qkt, with a qkt launcher in ~/.local/bin. On Linux x64 it ships its own Java runtime, so you need no Java. macOS and other platforms need a system JDK 21.

Questions

Before you start.

Is qkt ready for real money?
Not yet. qkt is pre-1.0 and its own docs say paper accounts only. Backtest, paper trade, then connect a demo account. The parity register lists exactly where live trading can differ from a backtest.
What does it cost?
Nothing. qkt, the venue gateway and Guardrails are Apache-2.0; the MT5 gateway is MIT. You run them on your own machine or server.
Which brokers and venues can I trade?
Any MetaTrader 5 broker through the MT5 gateway, with built-in profiles for Exness, IC Markets, FTMO and Pepperstone. Deribit perpetuals, futures and options through the venue gateway, or its paper account on Deribit's live prices.
How close is a backtest to live trading?
Backtest and live build the same pipeline, and a parity test proves they produce identical trades against the paper broker. Real venues add spread, latency and partial fills; those differences are written down, and --broker mt5-sim models spread and lot sizes in a backtest.
Do I need to know Kotlin or Java?
No. Strategies are .qkt files in the qkt language. On Linux the release tarball carries its own runtime, and there is a Docker image for everything else.
Where does the data come from?
qkt fetch downloads public Binance bars in seconds, and it can backfill bars from a configured MT5 broker the same way. Everything lands in a local store under ~/.qkt. Backtests with --broker mt5-sim model spread and costs and need tick data; the qkt repository ships a two-day tick sample to try it.
How do I get a demo account?
For futures and options, the venue gateway's paper adapter needs no account at all. For MetaTrader 5, open a demo account on your broker's website or from inside MetaTrader 5, and check that your broker allows automated trading.
What if qkt or my connection stops mid-trade?
On MT5 the stop and the target go to the broker with the entry, so they stay in place if qkt stops. qkt keeps its state and a journal on disk, and production mode refuses to start without them, so it can pick up after a restart. Guardrails runs separately and can still close positions through the gateway, if the gateway is up.
How do I know a strategy works?
qkt cannot tell you that, and nothing honest can. Test several months, not one; qkt walkforward splits history into train and test windows. Then paper or demo trade until the fills and results look like the backtest. The parity register lists where live trading is known to differ.
Which operating systems does it run on?
On Linux x64 the release tarball carries its own runtime, so no Java is needed. On macOS the installer needs JDK 21 on the machine, and a Windows zip is published with each release. The MT5 gateway runs in Docker as an amd64 Linux image. This guide's commands were run on Linux only.
Where do I get help?
Open an issue on the repository of the piece you are using; they are all linked on the Open source page. The reference documentation is at qkt.elitekaycy.com.
Can a script or an AI agent drive it?
Yes. qkt bot is a one-shot command surface with --json output. Every trade it places is rendered to a canonical strategy file, journaled, and sent to Insights like any other.
